10:06Now PlayingIt seems that Christian culture is seeing one deconversion story after another, and the most recent story is that of Jonathan Steingard, the frontman of the band Hawk Nelson, who recently announced that he no longer believes in God. In this video, we explore how Christians can respond to apostasy, or in other terms, how Christians can respond to people leaving the faith. It's a sad thing when people leave the faith, but Christians need to respond in love, showing people who walk away that they are loved unconditionally by God and by the Christian community. Likewise, as Christians we need to create safe spaces for people to doubt and ask questions, as well as being more rigorous in learning answers to difficult questions like, if God is good, why is there evil? Or, is the Bible really true? Why is God so violent in the Old Testament? None of these questions are new, and neither are there answers. It's on us to put in the time to make sense of how to answer these questions. In the meantime, we never forget that love is often much more powerful than reason, though we need both.
