In this week's episode of Life in the Word, we're exploring Philippians chapter 3 where Paul explores, righteousness by faith, the relationship of faith and works, our heavenly citizenship, and more! As in all of our Life in the Word videos, we start with some background to the text, this week exploring the life of Paul and how that plays into this chapter. Specifically we look at three ideas:

1) Paul was Jewish

2) Paul was a Pharisee

3) Paul was a Roman citizen

All of these aspects play into who he was and how he wrote. Then, we explore three key ideas:

1) Righteousness by faith and how that interacts with works

2) How we're all a work in progress

3) How our allegiance is to Jesus and our citizenship is in his kingdom.

I hope through all of these things you're given practical application for your every day life, including the realization that it's not what you do that defines you, you don't have to earn your salvation, there's grace for you as a work in progress, and you are to live as a heavenly citizen.

About Life in the Word:

Life in the Word is a weekly Bible Study where we go through one chapter at a time of a book of the Bible. The goal is that it would be a place where your love for the Bible grows, and that scholarly insights meet real world application. This isn't about using fancy words and sounding smart, it's about the beautiful simplicity of opening up the Bible and learning what we can from it. Stay tuned as new episodes drop every Thursday.
