In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 3 Topic 11 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 3 (1754-1800).
Before, during, and after the American Revolution, a new sense of identity was emerging in the United States. With respect to women's roles, they largely remained as they were, but with the advent of the Republican Motherhood, they gained more prestige in the early republic.
Additionally, literature, architecture, and art helped shape national identity as well. This was apparent in buildings like Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello, as well as paintings by Charles Willson Peale and John Trumbull.
