In this video Heimler walks you through Unit 2 Topic 5 of the AP Government curriculum which is all about checks on the presidency. As you no doubt know by now, the Constitution has set up our system of government so that there is a separation of powers and checks and balances.
When it comes to the presidency, it is usually the Senate which exercises a lot of the check power (though certainly not ONLY the Senate). Because of the Senate's constitutional role to grant advice and consent, that means the Senate is responsible for confirming presidential appointments. This usually doesn't cause much of a fight in the cases of ambassador appointments or cabinet appointments, but things get saucy when we get into the realm of federal court appointments, especially Supreme Court appointments. If the president isn't careful about federal judge appointments, they might just find themselves BORKED.
