Over the years, federal power has expanded, and this video focuses on that expansion in the executive office. George Washington basically deferred to Congress on many matters since he believed that the legislature represented the people.
A major turning point came in the presidency of Andrew Jackson who believed himself (and not Congress) to be the true representative of the people. And then Abraham Lincoln, and then Franklin Roosevelt both continued the expand presidential power until the modern role of president looks very different than it did during Washington's presidency.
