After Austria-Hungary collapsed the Poles and the Ukrainians waged a short but heavy war over control over Galicia. It culminated into the Battle of Lemberg where Polish youngsters (the Lwów Eaglets / Orlęta lwowskie) fought against Ukrainian militias. This post WW1 conflict was won by the Poles who managed to secure control over Galicia ánd later stop the Red Army during the Polish-Soviet War (1919 - 1921).
