What Happened After the Second World War? After WW II 40 million Europeans were dead. The material damage was enormous. The biggest inmediate problem was the enormous amount of displaced people. There was a big refugee crisis. Revenge took place. In the Netherlands after WW II girls that slept with German soldiers were called 'kraut whores' (moffenhoeren) and humiliated. Similar tragedies occured in Denmark, Belgium and France.

During the Nuremberg trials prominent nazis were prosecuted. Rubble women (Trümmerfrauen) started to rebuilt the German cities that were destroyed during the strategic bombing during World War II. In Czechslovakia the Brno death march took place. Germans were violently expelled from their former territories after Germany's territorial change. Poles had move west because the borders of the former Second Polish Republic changed.

In Greece a civil war between communists and nationalists fought each other. In Italian several communist inspired strikes took place. The army restored order. The Eastern Bloc was created and therefore the Cold War had started.
