6:32Now PlayingInterested in Hungarian history? The Hungarian Republic (Magyar Köztársaság) was a short-lived state that succeeded the Hungarian Soviet Republic. That communist state was taken down during the Hungarian-Romanian War by the Romanian Army and the Hungarian National Army led by Admiral Miklós Horthy. When that happened the First Hungarian Republic (Első Magyar Köztársaság) was re-established but soon taken down. The Hungarian Republic had a militantly anti-communist authoritarian government who carried out the White Terror as revenge for the Red Terror carried out by the Hungarian communists. After the Treaty of Trianon was signed also this short-lived republic went down to make way for the Kingdom of Hungary. Learn more about the history of Hungary.
