YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThe land battle for Java was the last main battle for the Japanese during their conquest of the Dutch East Indies. It was a last-ditch attempt of Dutch and left-over Allied forces to halt the Japanese onslaught. Allied air and navel forces were defeated. Under rear admiral Karel Doorman the Allied fleet was crushed in the Java Sea.
The Japanese landed on three different points on Java island. There was a battle for the air field of Kalidjati. A small Japanese detachment landed at Eretan Wetan and managed to capture it. Dutch counterattacks had no success. From 5 to 7 March '42 the Battle at the Ciater Pass took place. Japanese soldiers successfully stormed and captured the undermanned defensive positions after three days of fighting, securing their path to Bandung. Before any fighting could take place in Bandung, Dutch troops, wishing to prevent the city's destruction, had surrendered, leading to the eventual capitulation of most of the Dutch East Indies to Japan.
