YouTube Description
as posted by the channelHanna Reitsch (1912–1979) was a pioneering German test pilot who earned her pilot’s license in 1932 while studying medicine, later abandoning her studies to fly professionally. She tested numerous aircraft before and during WWII, surviving several crashes and receiving both classes of the Iron Cross—one of the few German women to do so—becoming a prominent figure in German WW2 propaganda. Though politically described as naïve, she proposed the idea of death missions in 1944, which Hitler rejected.
In April 1945, she flew Field Marshal Robert Ritter von Greim into besieged Berlin so Hitler could appoint him Luftwaffe commander. After a brief stay in the Führerbunker, they escaped on the last plane out of the city. Postwar, Reitsch resumed flying, organized aviation schools abroad, and remained active in aviation until her passing in 1979.
