Nearly 2000 people were killed and hundreds of thousands more were left homeless by the costliest natural disaster in history. The cleanup cost more than $100 billion. New Orleans was the hardest hit; the city's levee system failed leaving 80% of the city underwater. Political leaders including President George W. Bush came under public scrutiny for their handling of the disaster, and FEMA's director was forced to resign in the wake of storm. Days later, the panelists on Washington Week tried to sort out the storm and the federal response, but as Gwen Ifill said, "The questions remain more plentiful than answers."
