IRAN WAR UPDATE: Pentagon planning “crushing blow” for Iran, but will it work?

The Pentagon is reportedly looking at bigger escalation options against Iran, including possible strikes tied to Kharg Island and even scenarios involving US ground forces. But the obvious problem is that none of this looks clean or controllable. Iran could retaliate across the region, threaten oil traffic and infrastructure, and turn this into a much wider, longer war. At the same time, Iran is reportedly reinforcing Kharg Island and preparing new shipping fees in the Strait of Hormuz, which means the economic fallout may only be getting started.

Meanwhile, Trump keeps sending mixed signals, claiming the war is on track and nearly over while the facts on the ground suggest a far messier reality. Gas prices are rising, oil is climbing again, inflation fears are growing, and even some Republicans are reportedly describing the operation as chaotic and warning that diplomacy may be the only real exit. Trump is also taking weapons bought by Europe for Ukraine and redirecting them to the Middle East, while attacking NATO yet again. And politically, the numbers look rough: a new poll has his approval at 41%, with especially sharp erosion among independents and Latinos.
