as posted by the channelI interviewed Elena Everett Everett, Special Projects Coordinator at the Southern Vision Alliance, and Jen Hampton, lead organizer of Asheville Food and Beverage United and the WNC coordinator for Southern Workers Assemblies. We discussed the upcoming People's Assembly in Asheville on November 18 from 1-3 at the YWCA.
This is a project of the NC People's Power Coalition, a multi-issue coalition formed to combat the right wing budget and legislation coming out of the GOP controlled North Carolina Legislature.
We discussed which organizations are involved, the history of people's assemblies and other experiments in direct democracy, how they are different from workers' assemblies, which themselves are different from unions, and how the process will work to get more people involved in the decisions that affect our lives.
