A Chicago police sergeant was placed on administrative leave after leaking video of a man who died while in police custody to outside investigators. The man, Eric Lurrye was taken into custody on drug related charges in January of this year. The video shows officers shaking Lurry, slapping him in the face and holding his nose until he eventually lost consciousness.
Plus video of a Texas cop appears to show the officer groping a woman he's detained during a traffic stop. The woman can be heard yelling for a female officer to search her.
Later, viral videos like New York's Amy Cooper have inspired other cities to propose legislation that would address falsely contacting law enforcement on people of color. San Francisco lawmakers have proposed a new bill called the Karen (CAREN) Act. CAREN stands for Caution Against Racially Exploitative Non-emergencies.
