The mob set fire to the Anjuman Jama mosque and instigated violence, leading to the death of the prayer leader and injuries to others. The unrest followed clashes between Hindus and Muslims in a neighboring district, with tensions further escalated by ongoing campaigns against Islamic Friday prayers by far-right Hindu groups and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Deputy police commissioner Nitish Agarwal grimly summarized the incident, stating, “A group of 50 to 60 miscreants resorted to firing and arson at Anjum in the early hours of Tuesday, which led to the death of one person and wounded another.” Authorities have made several arrests, but tensions continue to run high in Gurugram, reflecting deeper divisions and religious strife within the community.
