42:56Now PlayingThe Danish government arise taking steps to formulate legal solutions to prevent the public desecration of the Quran and other religious texts, following a series of incidents in which the Islamic holy book was burned in Denmark and Sweden. These acts led to a hostile reaction, including the storming of the Swedish Embassy in Iraq. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, in an interview on July 30th, acknowledged the complexity of the task, stating, “There must be room for religious criticism, and we have no thoughts of reintroducing a blasphemy clause. But when you stand up in front of a foreign embassy and burn a Quran or burn the Torah scroll in front of the Israeli embassy, it serves no other purpose than to mock.” Sweden's Prime Minister emphasized the severity of the situation, likening it to the country's most serious security policy situation since World War II, while Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström has held talks with the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Both governments are clear in their condemnation of the “Islamophobic” acts but are striving to ensure that any legal measures do not infringe on the deeply-held value of freedom of expression in both countries.
