Why Didn’t Anyone Stop Robin Westman Before the Massacre?

The Minneapolis Catholic school massacre was not just the work of one deranged individual. It was a failure across the board — a failure of parents, friends, schools, social media, and law enforcement to act when the warning signs were screaming out loud.

Robin Westman, 23, did not hide his obsession. He wrote disturbing manifestos. He posted online rants glorifying school shooters. He sketched church layouts. He openly admitted to hating life, hating people, and wanting to carry out “a final act.” These were not whispers in the dark. These were red flags painted in neon. And yet nothing was done.

Neighbors described him as “normal.” Teachers recalled disruptions and odd behavior. Social media companies let his writings and videos circulate unchecked. His mother knew he struggled with gender identity and depression. Everyone had pieces of the puzzle, but no one put them together until two children were dead and 17 others wounded.

We must ask: Who bears responsibility when warning signs are ignored? How many more manifestos must be written before Silicon Valley acts? How many more parents will dismiss the danger signs in their own homes? How many more times will law enforcement say, “He wasn’t on our radar”?

The blood of these children is not only on the shooter’s hands. It is on the hands of every person and every institution that saw the signs and turned away. Silence has a price. And in Minneapolis, that price was children’s lives.
