1:04:29Now PlayingOn December 16, 2022, Marc Lamont Hill spoke with Bernard Robinson, the father of 25-year-old Shanquella Robinson. Shanquella was a student at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina who was found dead in October 2022 in Mexico while on vacation with her college friends.
Shanquella's death certificate lists the cause of her death as “severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation.” It also classified her death as “violent,” noting that the approximate time between injury and death was 15 minutes. Her friends initially told authorities she had alcohol poisoning. A video posted online appears to show Shanquella being beaten by another person while others watched and recorded.
April 2023, Federal prosecutors told the Robinson family that the evidence wasn’t enough to pursue charges for her death.
