Marc Lamont Hill breaks down why this is no coincidence. Public sector jobs in education, healthcare, and community service, the backbone of Black women’s economic security, are being slashed. At the same time, DEI programs are being gutted, race-conscious grants are blocked, and pay inequities keep widening.
Black women, often both breadwinners and caregivers, are being pushed out. And when Black women lose stability, entire families and communities lose it too. The economic cost? Every 1% drop in women’s labor participation costs the U.S. nearly $150 billion in GDP.
This isn’t just about jobs. It’s about erasure. And if Black women are being pushed out of the workforce, the whole country is in trouble.
