Sponsored by Senator Melisa Franzen, DFL-Edina, the measure is referred to as "Sophia's Law," named in honor of Sophia Baechler, who lost her life due to carbon monoxide poisoning while boating on Lake Minnetonka. Dr. Courtney Baechler, Sophia's mother, provided emotional testimony earlier this year to the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee in calling for the measure.
