According to Education Chair Charles Wiger, DFL-Maplewood, the bill provides incentives to address the teacher shortage; attempts to improve teacher readiness and safety; streamlines school reporting requirements and alters testing practices.
During the debate, the Senate rejected an amendment, offered by lead Senate Republican Sean Nienow, R-Cambridge, that would have required student expulsion for assaulting a teacher.
