In late March, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would lift the ban on the sale of customers’ browsing history by Internet Service Providers. The following week, Senator Ron Latz, DFL-St. Louis Park, offered an amendment to the Omnibus Jobs Bill that would prevent the sharing or sale of Minnesotans’ data without express written consent. The amendment was adopted. Senator Latz discusses both the urgency of the measure and its current status.
In early May, Governor Dayton signed into law a bill that would ban state vendor contracts and investments in companies that boycott Israel. He also signed a bill that would limit life insurance payments to the beneficiaries of terrorists. The bills' author, Senator Warren Limmer, R-Maple Grove, provides background on the impetus in bringing the legislation forward.
