48:45Now PlayingThe Senate and House began debate Tuesday, May 9, on all the conference committee reports to the tax and budget plans. The action on spending bills that Governor Dayton said he would veto began, according to Republican leaders, when Dayton failed to agree to global budget targets.
Leaders spent most of Tuesday, May 9, meeting with Governor Dayton in private budget negotiations. During their discussions, the GOP leaders offered new targets that would set $1 billion dollars in tax relief, an additional $373 million dollars in E-12 Education, $372 million additional General Fund dollars for transportation. Their budget also called for reductions of $473 million dollars in Health and Human Services and $40,000 to state government agencies.
Governor Mark Dayton responded to the proposed targets with proposals in four budget areas.
