1:24:07Now PlayingThe Senate Aging and Long Term Care Policy Committee met Monday, February 12, to review recommendations from the Elder Abuse Task Force on stemming abuse in Minnesota's health care facilities.
According to a recently published task force report, the Minnesota Department of Health reported a 600 percent increase in maltreatment reports since 2010. The report further identified that the agency only had the capacity to investigate 1 percent of the 20,791 reports from providers and 10 percent of the 3,491 from individuals.
In addition to reviewing the report, the committee heard from several stakeholders involved in strengthening and enforcing the rights of senior residents of the long-term care facilities.
