28:31Now PlayingThe city of Minneapolis passed the Green to Go Environmentally Acceptable Packaging Ordinance in 2015. It requires that packaging for to-go food and drinks be reusable, recyclable or compostable. Recently, businesses and other organizations have expressed concern about a patchwork of regulations regarding the packaging of their products and have called for a uniform statewide standard. Senator Dan Hall, R-Burnsville, sponsors legislation that prohibits local ordinances on auxiliary containers, and he joins Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke to discuss his bill. Also, ill opponent Senator Carolyn Laine, DFL-Columbia Heights, explains why she believes local control can prove beneficial to the state.
Also, some areas of greater Minnesota are experiencing both economic growth and a housing shortage, causing difficulties for workers to find affordable places to live. Senate Agriculture, Rural Development and Housing Finance Chair Torrey Westrom joins Shannon to highlight efforts by his committee to address the problem.
