15:07Now PlayingSenate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka, R-Nisswa, and SenatorJeremy Miller, R-Winona, met with the State Capitol press corps Thursday, November 8, to announce the selection of Miller as Senate President Designate. Senator Miller will assume the position previously held by Lieutenant Governor Michelle Fischbach upon his election by the full Senate when the 2019 session convenes January 8.
In addition to the announcement, Majority Leader Gazelka identified key issues for the Republican caucus as they begin preparations for the upcoming session. Passing a balanced budget and conforming state taxes to the 2018 federal tax changes are two priorities cited by Gazelka. "Those are places we'll build bridges," he said.
Senator Miller said he looks forward to running the Senate "in a respectful and honorable way."
