27:02Now PlayingSecretary of State Steve Simon, Senator Ann Rest, DFL-New Hope, Senator Carolyn Laine, DFL-Columbia Heights and other public officials outline a proposal Thursday, January 3, designed to expand voter registration opportunities and tighten election security.
Billed as "Investing in Democracy Agenda" the plan would establish automatic voter registration when voters interact with state agencies, such as securing a driver's license. Also, the measure would take advantage of $6.6 million dollars in federal funds to enhance the security of the state's polling systems.
Other major provisions include the restoration of voting rights to convicted felons who have served their sentences and changes to the Presidential Primary Law for 2020 by addressing the problem of a voter's party affiliation becoming public information.
