57:58Now PlayingWith three raps of the gavel, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan convened the Senate into session Tuesday, January 8, for the opening of the 2019 legislative session. The task before Senators included the election of Senator Jeremy Miller, R-Winona, as Senate President and Cal Ludeman as Secretary of the Senate. Also sworn into office were the officers of the Senate, including First Assistant Secretary Colleen Pacheco, Second Assistant Secretary Mike Linn and Sergeant at Arms Sven Lindquist. The Senate also adopted numerous resolutions organizing the Senate for the 2019 session.
Senators also paid tribute to former State Senator Bill Belanger of Bloomington and former State Representative Tom Rukavina of Virginia, both of whom recently passed away. The next Senate floor session is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10.
