Lorna Smith, Enterprise Director at MMB, presented a premium paid holiday for all of March as a solution to the excess medical reserves acquired in 2020. Senator Kiffmeyer, R-Big Lake, voiced her concern over the accessibility of the benefit as it does not include anyone over 65 and retirees, and would only apply to the month of March. The Committee called for more research into other possible solutions and will reexamine this later with more information.
John Eichten, MNIT Deputy Commissioner, and Rohit Tandon, MNIT Chief Information Security Officer, provided an update on the December 21, 2021, technical issue that caused a system outage for multiple state agencies. He explained that the outage was caused by a third-party technology management tool and was not related to malicious cyber activity. Eichten added that MNIT officials are continuing to research the issue and will be working to move to a cloud-based system in the future.
