With legislation establishing the new department passing in 2023, operations of DCYF officially began in July 2024. Senators Melissa Wiklund, DFL-Bloomington, and Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, share their thoughts on momentum it took to establish the department, the progress it has made so far, and what's ahead for the DCYF as it enters the terrible twos.
