6:38A civil defence volunteer who worked tirelessly in past three months arranging food for the poor during the lockdown died of Covid and the family members have been left to fend for themselves as they are still awaiting government aid. Singh is survived by his wife and two children, a son in class IX and a daughter who cleared class XII boards on the day he passed away.
As per health department order dated April 19, the Delhi government announced honorary compensation scheme of Rs one crore for the family of employees who die of corona while on Covid-19 duty.
The family members said barring SDM of Dwaraka, who Arun was attached with, none of the government officials has reached out to them. The Civil defence volunteers have been a backbone to national capital’s fight against Covid-19 — from manning barricades at containment zones to the doorstep delivery of essentials, the distribution of food at hunger centres, the distribution of ration and the adherence to government guidelines in public buses.
