as posted by the channelSince the beginning of the pandemic, Chennai was a much difficult turf to handle for authorities due to several factors including state not taking the pandemic seriously. In fact on 1st May, the positive cases in Chennai for the day were 175. But on June 1, the positive cases for the day was 1,012.
The city so far saw its peak infection numbers on 30th June, the positive cases for the day were 2,393. This forced the Health Officials to put the City through 6 different periods so lockdown. Several plans such as target testing, Home surveillance, ILI Patient monitoring, and Sunday Total Lockdown were also implemented. The aforesaid plans seem to have worked as Greater Chennai City has entered a Stable Phase and on the Slow Decline Phase. The Recovery rate in the City is 89% while the fatality rate is at 2.1%.
The positivity rate has decreased from 37% to 8.7% average. This has been confirmed by the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash to MirrorNow. He stated that Target Testing and reducing Patient turn around time which means moving the positive patient to a hospital or isolation center played an important role.
