24:58Now PlayingOn India Revival Mission Council today, Heena Gambhir talks about the recently passed Farm Bills. The farm sector has shown hope even though the GDP numbers of the first quarter displayed contraction. The agriculture sector recorded a growth of about 3.4%.
To analyze what do these new farm bills mean for the agriculture sector and farmers in the country, Heena Gambhir is joined by Ramesh Chand, member agriculture Niti Ayog, Professor JP Sharma, VC of Shere Kashmir University, Vijay Sardana, Agriculture economist, Professor Arun Kumar, and Avik Saha.
Professor Arun Kumar answers whether these bills are revolutionary or anti-farmer, states that the bill suggests that the farmers will have greater choice, but the problem is that the farmers do not really have a choice as they are tied to various markets. Avik Saha adds to this and states that the MSP is actually received by very small numbers of farmers.
