The previous BJP administration’s decision to situate the Metro Car Shed in Aarey Colony has been categorically reversed by the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Udhav Thackeray and will now be placed in Kanjurmarg.
The green decision to protect the lungs of the city comes as a major relief since massive protests broke out after the BJP government’s decision.
The question, however, remains, that whether this was a right decision taken by the government or was it just a political move?
Zoru Bhathena, an Environmentalist commented on the decision saying the shift of the Metro car shed from Aarey to Kanjurmarg is a win-win situation for Mumbai. He added that the decision was initially taken by the Devendra Fadnavis government back in 2015 and is finally being implemented. Existing lines are being integrated, he said.
Devyani Kaushik fro BJP spoke against the decision. She declared that this is an unfortunate decision which will increase the project cost by 4,000 crores rupees. In addition to this, she added, that the Kanjurmarg land has various issues. She further stated that without paying the government anyone will be able to claim the land tomorrow.
