3:18Now PlayingTamil Nadu government gets garnered with praise after its implementation of 7.5% horizontal reservation which has led to 405 government school students to do Medicine.
227 MBBS and 86 BDS seats in Government Colleges and 80 MBBS and 12 BDS seats in Private Colleges allocated under the new 7.5% horizontal reservation.
Thua is considered as a huge boost as even before NEET was implemented not many students from Government Schools acquired the opportunity to pursue Medicine.
In fact, in 2014 and 2015, 36 students joined Medical Colleges and in 2016, it was 37.
However, after implementing NEET, the number of government school students who joined Medicine was 3 for 2017, 5 for 2018 and 6 for 2019.
CM Edapadi K Palanisamy said that he's not boasting about 405 government school students getting seats but proud of the occasion as such a reform has been brought in.
The bigger question that is being raised is whether the 7.5% reservation will continue post-2021 and government-aided schools students are also demanding such a quota.
