57:07Now PlayingOn The Urban Debate today, Tanvi Shukla discusses the censorship debate which has stirred after the release of Amazon Prime’s original web series ‘Tandav’ starring actors like Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, and more.
An FIR has been registered, in Lucknow, against the Amazon India content head, director, and producer of the web series for hurting religious sentiments. Lead Actor, Saif Ali Khan’s effigy was also burnt in Mirzapur. Protests were also raised across several parts of the country.
Should OTT platforms be regulated? How were the religious sentiments hurt in ‘Tandav’?
Media Advisor Shalabh Mani Tripathi wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister stating that ‘If in the name of freedom of expression & web series, religious sentiments are hurt action will be taken. We will not tolerate this’. While Film critic Mayank Shekhar said that ‘This is happening far too many times now & the point is that the government is pretty adamant on coming in as a censoring authority here’.
