1:28Now PlayingElectronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter-verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) were recovered from a TMC leader's home in West Bengal's Howrah on Tuesday, prompting Union Minister Prakash Javadekar to demand a thorough investigation.
In the meantime, on Tuesday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) suspended the sector officer. According to the EC, Tapan Sarkar, a sector officer in AC 177 Uluberia Uttar in Howrah district, went to a relative's house with a reserved EVM. It was a reserved EVM that was no longer used in the election. In phase-III, voters will be asked to choose from among 31 Assembly constituencies in districts, including eight in Hooghly, seven in Howrah, and 16 in South 24 Parganas. In this round of voting, 205 candidates are competing.
