37:01Now PlayingIn this episode of The Urban Debate, Tanvi Shukla takes up the vaccine debate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation yesterday and announced the changes that the Central government is now introducing. Prime Minister Modi announced free vaccines for all above the age of 18 years and the centralization of vaccine procurement. This decision comes after several states reported a shortage of vaccine supply and had to shut down either the vaccination centres or halt the drive for those in the 18-44 age group. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced that the vaccine price cap for private hospitals has been set at Rs 150. However, the question remains that if private hospitals can afford these vaccines at such a low cost?
The 25% allocation to the private sector is questionable, says Congress' Dr Sravan Kumar. He further adds that the government should accede to the request to provide free vaccines for all.
