Mamata's petition will be heard by the court on Friday. Suvendu Adhikari, Mamata's aide-turned-rival who had left the Trinamool to join the BJP before of the assembly elections, defeated Mamata in Nandigram. Suvendu received 1,10,764 votes, while Mamata received 1,08,808 votes in a tight race that saw fortunes swing from one side to the other. Banerjee had threatened to take the matter to court once the results were announced, alleging interference with EVM machines and the EC official's failure to comply with calls for recounting.
