5:13Now PlayingAbhijit Mukherjee, the son of former President Pranab Mukherjee, joined the Trinamool Congress on Monday at the party's headquarters in Kolkata in the company of Sudip Bandyopadhyay, the party's Lok Sabha leader, and Partha Chatterjee, the party's secretary general. Mr. Mukherjee, who was twice elected to the Lok Sabha from the Jangipur constituency, began his political career in 2011 when he ran for the Nalhati Assembly seat on the Congress ticket. When Pranab Mukherjee was named President in 2012, the Jangipur seat became vacant, and Mr. Mukherjee was elected in a bypoll. In 2014, he was re-elected in Jangipur, however he lost the seat in 2019.
