With Mary's departure from the Tokyo Olympics after winning bronze in London 2012, an era of Indian boxing at the Olympics came to an end. However, as is often in the international ring, a bout ended with a lot of misunderstanding and queries concerning the scoring system. The referee raised her hand to announce Colombian Ingrit Valencia the victor of the women's flyweight quarterfinal versus Mary. Mary along with the Indian camp claimed that the scoring wasn't fair, that Mary had an advantage in the final two rounds, and that she should have won.
According to the rules, after losing at the Olympics, boxers cannot have their matches reviewed.
