However, looking at the data huge number of manual scavengers have lost their lives while cleaning the manholes and sewers.
Former Municipal Commissioner, Maharashtra said that it should be the municipal commission's duty to ensure nobody is forced to enter the sewers against their will and no such inhuman practice exists.
BJP spokesperson that 20 people died in the last two years however the center claims otherwise.
