6:01Now PlayingThe Supreme Court has held eight political parties guilty of contempt of court for failing to declare and publicise the criminal antecedents of their candidates during the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections. These parties include Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal, Lok Janshakti Party, Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Nationalist Congress Party and the Communist Party of India. They have violated the court’s direction to publicise criminal antecedents of their candidates in widely-circulated newspapers, social media platforms and their respective websites as mandated by the judgment dated February 13, 2020. The apex court has fined Rs 5 lakh each to CPI(M) and NCP. The remaining parties have been fine for Rs 1 lakh each. Watch!
