28:47Now PlayingOn the Urban Debate, with Tanvi Shukla, we discuss about criminalisation of marital rape. A woman in Chhattisgarh was physically abused and raped for dowry. She filed a report against the husband and her in-laws. She accused her husband for coercing her to make physical relations and forcing himself upon her despite her protest. Several other charges of harassment, dowry and cruelty were put against the family by the woman. Unfortunately, in India, there are no strict actions for marital rape, the crime is not recognised and is not an offence. The Chhattisgarh High Court Bench has said that, 'none of the ingredients to constitute offence under sections 376 are spelt out.' Watch the entire debate to find out more.
