51:05Now PlayingOn the Urban Debate, with Tanvi Shukla, we discuss the protection of Covid orphan children in India. Lakhs of children were orphaned during the outbreak of deadly Coronavirus. In the ongoing case, an additional affidavit has been submitted by the child rights body, NCPCR, in the Supreme Court. The report unveiled serious concerns in this regard. About 8,100 children have been orphaned, and over 92 Thousand children have lost one of their parents in the pandemic. Furthermore, almost 400 children were abandoned between April 2020 to August 2021.
It has been several weeks since the central government has been looking into this matter. In addition to that, the government is working upon several issues like the appropriate measures for such children, financial support for them and the rehabilitation process.
