The death is the first of its kind in the Covid-devastated state. The re-emergence of the Nipah virus in Kerala offers a new risk in a state already dealing with the Covid-19 crisis, which is responsible for almost 60% of all new cases in the country. Past Nipah outbreaks have been generally localized and limited. Everyone who made contact with the boy has been asked to isolate themselves and 20 samples have been sent to Pune for testing
