Additionally, the PIL sought a direction for the EC to deregister political parties who are indulging in such tactics offering freebies and SOPs to people. A PIL was filed with the top court seeking deregistration of parties offering freebies ahead of polls, and the SC has acted upon it and issued notices on the same to the Centre as well as the EC.
