Altaf, who is from Srinagar, won the Boys 70km road event on Saturday. He is the son of a poor tailor and began cycling as part of his everyday tasks of dropping and collecting up items for his father. The previous day, the 18-year-old had won silver in the 28km solo time trial. Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, congratulated him on his historic victory.
