Mathews were involved in the case against scientist Nambi Narayanan in the ISRO espionage case. The CBI's petition along with other pending petitions were to be heard by a bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar. On July 27, the petition will be heard. The CBI claimed that four scientists were imprisoned and tortured by IB officials despite having no connection to the probe during the Supreme Court hearing last year. The development of technologies for the cryogenic rocket engine project was delayed by 10–20 years as a result of his arrest. Incorrectly, scientists were involved in this situation.
