16:58Now PlayingIn this episode of Mirror Metro, the host Shreya Dhoundial will be discussing how the curfew in the women's hostel at Kozhikode Medical College has drawn criticism from the Kerala High Court, which claimed that "such restrictions under the guise of protection is nothing but patriarchy." The court ruled that patriarchy of any kind must be condemned, even if it serves to provide protection based on gender. The observations were made during a hearing on a petition filed by a few female MBBS students and officers of the Kozhikode Medical College College Union, who had objected to a government order issued in 2019 that set a condition restricting hostel inmates' entry and exit after 9.30 p.m. without a valid reason. The petitioners noted in their argument that only women's hostels were subject to the stipulation; men's hostels were not. Additionally, the petitioners argued that the 9:30 pm limit is just meant to be a suggestion and not a requirement.
